Salisbury Book Crafts is a course which caters to all levels of bookbinding. Beginners as well as those with previous binding skills are welcome to come along and develop their particular interests in the craft.

Those just starting out are given a solid grounding in traditional methods and structures as well as instruction in the correct use of materials and tools. Basic tools, equipment and materials are provided for beginners.

For others with bookbinding knowledge it is an opportunity to come and learn new skills or perfect old ones. Students bring their own projects and work at their own pace.

Whether your interest lies in restoration, repair, binding in cloth or leather, or work of a more contemporary nature, it can slot into the course at Salisbury: all tuition is based on the same sound principles and good work ethics.

The tutor is Lori Sauer, a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders. As well as running this course she teaches master classes around the UK and abroad. In 2011 she launched BINDING re:DEFINED, a new series of workshops focusing on alternative structures, the only workshops aimed specifically at contemporary bindings in the UK.  She did her bookbinding training at the City Lit in London and is well versed in all areas of the craft, specialising in modern design binding. Her work is in collections both in the UK and abroad and you can view it at Please see the BINDING re:DEFINED workshops at
